The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) warned the public about fake banknote designs after a misleading photo from satirical page Cebu Dairy News started making rounds online.

The false post, published on Nov. 3, said the BSP launched a commemorative P500 banknote featuring the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos. As of writing, the parody photo has been shared over 36,000 times.

BSP clarified on Tuesday, Nov. 9, that it has "not issued new banknote designs or a new design series."

It also warned the public against accepting fraudulent banknotes and asked Filipinos to report fake banknotes to the police or to BSP's Payments and Currency Investigation Group.
