'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' set designer found stabbed to death in apparent murder-suicide: reports
Mary Kate Golding, the set designer of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, among other shows, was found fatally stabbed in her New York City home on July 21 in what a police source told PEOPLE was a "possible murder-suicide".
A New York Police Department spokesperson said Golding's body was discovered in her Astoria, Queens basement a little after midnight on Tuesday. Golding, 34, had a stab wound in her back and was declared dead at the scene. Per Deadline, her 11-month-old son was found unharmed in the house, as well.
At about 6:39 a.m. on the same day, police received a 911 call about "an unconscious person in the vicinity of Astoria Park South and Shore Boulevard." Police found a man, 30 to 35 years old. He was "unconscious and unresponsive inside the park" and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to an NYPD source, the deceased victim was Joseph Azzaretto, 33, Golding's husband. Based on the initial investigation, Azzaretto apparently died by hanging, and may have been involved in the suspected murder-suicide.
Aside from Amazon's 2018 award-winning series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Golding's set design credits include Goosebumps, Marry Me, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Hawkeye, The Big Sick, Meet Cute, and the 2025 Netflix docuseries Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer.
Per Golding's Facebook page, the deceased set designer graduated from New York University in 2015. She began her TV career two years later as a production assistant in the art department of the film The Big Sick and the ABC series Time After Time.
In 2021, Azzaretto's brother, Nicholas Azzaretto, pled guilty to the fatal shooting of their father in Pennsylvania.
