Bride revealed as a man at Muslim wedding
A wedding in Sultan Kudarat went viral after the bride was revealed to be a man.
On May 16, a couple in Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat arrived at their wedding reception to wild cheers. The revelry, however, took a turn when individuals from the barangay exposed the bride as a man who was notorious for allegedly tricking other men into marriage.
The wedding on Saturday was a third for the groom, according to a report by News5's Frontline.
Apparently, the groom's family already had their doubts as to the sex of the bride, but was only able to confirm it at the reception. Despite their suspicions, the groom's parents gave the couple their blessing to be married.
The groom then knew the truth. He was in a relationship with his bride for eight months before their wedding.
"Alam niya po," the bride claimed in an interview. "Sinabi ko po sa kanya na bakla ako. Ang sabi niya lang sa akin, wala daw siyang pakialam kung ano ako."
Although the bride and groom were already wed when the revelation took place, it's not legally recognized as Sharia law forbids marriage between individuals of the same sex.
Authorities have arrested the bride, who may face fraud charges.
"Sorry po sa lahat ng mga Muslim at sa buong Palimbang at sa pamilya po ng nasaktan ko. Sana po mapatawad niyo 'ko," the bride said. "Hindi na po ako uulit. Pangako ko 'yan. Gusto ko lang po magbagong buhay ngayon."
The groom has not given a statement as of writing.
