Ishmael Bernal's 'Himala' to return to cinemas this September
Soon you may watch Ishmael Bernal's Himala in the big screen.
To celebrate Philippine Film Industry Month, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) will host a free screening of restored movies, titled "Mga Hiyas ng Sineng Filipino."
First to screen is the restored version of Himala this Sunday, Sept. 25 at the Metropolitan Theater.
It will be followed by a talkback session with its star, National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Nora Aunor, and screenwriter, National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Ricky Lee, after the film showing.
Himala is a 1982 film that follows the story of Elsa (Aunor), who comes from a poor northern village in the Philippines suffering from a drought. Elsa claims she had an encounter with the Virgin Mary and is able to perform miracles.
The film was nominated and given numerous awards including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor at Actress, Best Editing, Best Art Direction, Best Sound Engineering, Best Cinematography (Metro Manila Film Festival), Dekada Award for Ten Best Films of the Decade (Gawad Urian), and Viewer's Choice Award for the Best Film of All Time (CNN at Asia-Pacific Screen Awards 2008).
