South Korean director Park Hee Gon passes away at 56
Tragedy struck the film industry in South Korea after acclaimed film director Park Hee Gon passed away at the age of 56.
According to a report from Koreaboo, Park died on April 30, but the cause of his death has yet to be revealed.
Park started his career as a director for commercials before he got his big break by helming the 2009 heist film Insadong Scandal, which tells the story of a ruthless mogul who recruits a team of art restoration experts to steal a priceless masterpiece from the Joseon dynasty.
He achieved further success with the films Perfect Game in 2011, Catman in 2016, and Fengshui in 2018.
One of his last projects is the crime thriller film Target, loosely based on a real story about a woman targeted in an online second-hand trading scam.
His funeral will be held at Myongji Hospital in Goyang on May 2. His body will be buried at the Seoul City Crematorium.
