Peanut butter now classified as a liquid, according to US transportation agency

Think twice before you put your "pasa-buy" Trader Joe's Speculoos Cookie Butter jars inside your carry-on luggage because the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has now declared peanut butter as "liquid."

The US agency in charge of the security of transportation systems within, and connecting to the country, announced the new classification on their Twitter account.

This means that you may have to think twice about bringing some in your next trip as passengers are limited to carrying travel-sized containers of liquids to only 3.4 ounces.

"You may not be nuts about it, but TSA considers your PB a liquid. In carry-on, it needs to be 3.4 ounces or less. Make sure all your travel-sized liquids fit in one quart-sized bag," the TSA wrote.

They accompanied the accouncement with a picture of a jar of peanut butter with a message above that read, "Peanut butter... a liquid has no definite shape and takes a shape dictated by its container."

Responding to a netizen who asked what would happen if the peanut butter was spread on a sandwich, the TSA wrote, "Solid foods, including peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, are allowed in carry-on bags with no quantity limitations or packing requirements."

Aside from this, other items that are limited to 3.4 ounces in carry-on bags according to the agency include jams and jellies, maple syrup, creamy dips and spreads, among others.
