Senior citizens and PWDs are entitled to discounts on online transactions—BIR
The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) said discounts must be given to senior citizen and person with disability (PWD) card holders even when purchasing online.
BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. on Aug. 2 made the announcement via a video shared on Facebook.
“Dahil laganap na po ang online transactions na hindi naman tayo nakakapirma ay nag-issue tayo ng Revenue Regulations [RR] para naman ma-entitle kayo sa mga discount na ito, na hindi na kinakailangan pumirma pa sa invoices," he said, referring to the newly-issued Revenue Regulations No. 8-2023.
BIR said in a separate release that online platforms "should recognize the mandatory discounts given to senior citizens and persons with disabilities."
“The signature of the senior citizen or PWD is not needed if the purchase is made through online means. The senior citizen or PWD identification card number should still be provided,” it added.
Senior citizens and PWDs are entitled to a 20% discount and are exempt from the 12% value-added tax on certain goods and services.
