UP tops PH schools in 2025 QS world university rankings

The University of the Philippines (UP) has improved its spot in the 2025 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) world university rankings, making it the top Philippine university on the list. 

According to the results posted on Tuesday, June 4, UP is currently at the 336th spot with a 33.3 score, a significant jump from its 404th rank in 2024.  

Apart from UP, local universities including Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) which holds the 516th spot from the previous 563, and De La Salle University (DLSU) landing on the 641-650 bracket from the previous 681-690.  

Other universities that made it to the ranking are the University of Santo Tomas at 851-900 bracket and the second-timer University of San Carlos of Cebu at the 1401+ rank. 

Meanwhile, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States still holds the number one spot, marking its 13th consecutive year of being the top university in the world. 

Following it are Imperial College London, the University of Oxford, Harvard University, and the University of Cambridge. 

The National University of Singapore remained its spot of number one in Asia, and number eight in the world.  

According to the institution, the 2025 world university ranking is the “largest ever” featuring over 1,500 universities across 105 higher education systems. 

Like in 2024, QS used their new metrics such as sustainability, employment outcomes, and international research network, which they described as their “largest-ever methodological enhancement.”
