DOE: PH's fuel supply enough until mid-May
The Philippines has an adequate fuel supply until the second week of May, according to Energy Sec. Sharon Garin.
In an online press conference on March 24, Garin said that there are 45.10 days' worth of fuel for the whole country as of March 20.
Specifically, gasoline supply can last for up to 53.14 days, diesel 45.82 days, kerosene 97.93 days, jet fuel 38.62 days, fuel oil 61.49 days, and LPG 23.51 days. The figures are based on the average daily demand from April to September 2025.
On March 3, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said that the country's oil stockpiles are sufficient to cover about 50 to 60 days.
Garin explained why the current number has changed: "Kasi may nadadagdag po na deliveries galing sa ating supplier countries like Korea, Japan, even China. Lahat pa naman ng suppliers ng oil companies natin have delivered as ordered[.]"
She added that the government is working on procuring an additional buffer or reserve through the Philippine National Oil Company.
"Currently po, we are trying to purchase 1 million barrels, and that's good enough only for one week for the country, and that will likely cost us [more] than P10 billion already for just one week of supply," Garin said.
The Energy chief added that our current supply is "manageable" and urged the public to avoid hoarding and profiteering.
This comes after Malacañang said on March 23 that the Philippines is not suffering from an oil crisis, as there's enough supply. Palace press officer Claire Castro added that what may be happening is a price disruption caused by tensions in the Middle East.
Other countries' oil supply
As of December 2025, Japan has reserves of 470 million barrels of oil, which is adequate for 254 days. It's set to release part of its oil buffer on March 26 and to tap into joint stockpiles held by producing nations in the country by the end of the month.
Meanwhile, Thailand last week said that it had 101 days of oil reserves, including that from scheduled deliveries.
On March 19, Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources stated the country's fuel reserves stand at 27 to 28 days.
