Manny Castañeda's nephew reveals actor died from heart, kidney complications

Manny Castañeda’s nephew, Michael, has confirmed that the actor-director passed away from complications from heart and kidney diseases.

Recalling the incident, Michael shared with ABS-CBN News that a tenant of his uncle's apartment went to Manny’s unit to pay his dues, but was concerned that he did not respond after ringing the doorbell numerous times. 

The tenant decided to ask Michael’s parents for help, and they later discovered Manny’s lifeless body in his room.

Michael said that his uncle died due to complications from congenital heart disease, chronic kidney disease, and hypertension. 

The report added that his remains will be cremated, and the funeral service will take place at the Sanctuarium Crematory, Quezon City. 

His death was first revealed by Film Development Council of the Philippines chairperson Joey Javier Reyes on July 1. He was mourned by the creatives in showbiz, including director Quark Henares, Agot Isidro, publicist Noel Ferrer, and GMA screenwriter Suzette Doctolero, among others. 

Castañeda first got his break in the showbiz industry as an actor in the 1979 film, Aliw

He also appeared in other films like Oro Plata Mata (1981) and Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas (1986), and television series Makiling and FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.  

He also directed films like Guwapings Dos (1993), Ging Gang Gooly Giddiyap: I Love You Daddy (1994), Kailanman (1996), Sa Kabilugan ng Buwan (1997), April May June (1998), May Isang Pamilya (1999), and Shame (2000). 

His most recent project was Makiling (2024), a thriller directed by Conrado Delgado Peru.
