ABS-CBN is conducting an internal investigation after a car bearing the company's logo was caught on video hitting and leaving a stray dog injured.
On January 2, user Rich Quin took to Facebook to share the incident, which he said he witnessed while on his morning run.
The video shared showed a dog was hit by an ABS-CBN pick-up truck at the crosswalk along Sgt. Esguerra Ave. and Sct. Albano St. in Quezon City. When the animal was hit, the driver didn't stop, leaving the dog, whose name is Warren, crawling to get across the street.
The canine was taken to the Vet but didn't survive the injuries. He was said to be surrounded by his "pals" who've known him since he was a puppy.
Quin later called for motorists to be more mindful of humans and animals on the streets and said that he hoped the company would take action.
"I hope that companies that manage and operate vehicles will instill strict discipline to their drivers," he wrote. "Many of us runners, cyclists, motorists and pedestrians have encountered such undisciplined company drivers and vehicles that show no respect to other humans, animals and traffic rules."
In a statement sent to PhilSTAR L!fe, ABS-CBN CorpComm said that they are taking action regarding the incident.
"We are currently conducting an internal investigation and taking necessary actions to address the matter," the statement said.
"We want to emphasize that we do not tolerate such behavior, which goes against the values we uphold."
The driver has also since been identified and suspended, according to Quin who has been communicating with an ABS-CBN representative.
If you have witnessed any form of animal cruelty, you may report it to the police (PNP Hotline: 177) or barangay. You may also report it to the Philippine Animal Welfare Society as they can assist with pressing charges.
