Miss Universe Philippines explains delays in coronation night
The Miss Universe Philippines Organization (MUPH) on May 31 explained why the coronation night last May 22 had delays and other concerns.
In a statement on Facebook, MUPH first thanked everyone for their "patience and understanding" as the program began a little later than scheduled.
It noted that there were "numerous requests of ticket-holders who were coming straight from work that day," which was a Wednesday.
The coronation was also live-streamed as a taped-as-live, taking "longer than an actual live broadcast."
"Enough time was needed to be devoted to tabulations, production set-ups, and costume changes," the MUPH said, "to make sure that we give you the best possible edited, geared-for-a-global-audience and made-for-tv-airing version of the event."
The organization said a shorter version of the full show is already available on the YouTube channel of Empire Philippines.
Chelsea Manalo of Bulacan emerged as the winner of this year’s competition, besting 52 other hopefuls.
Manalo succeeded Michelle Dee, who finished Top 10 in the international pageant in El Salvador last year.
The Miss Universe 2024 will be held in Mexico.
To date, there are four Filipino titleholders: Catriona Gray (2018), Pia Wurtzbach (2015), Margie Moran (1973), and Gloria Diaz (1969).
