The world's largest cruise ship is set to sail in early 2024
A vessel that’s set to be the world’s biggest cruise ship has completed construction at a shipyard in Finland and has entered open waters for sea trials. It will continue to endure more rounds of testing prior to its official debut in Miami in January 2024.
Measuring five times the size of the Titanic, Royal Carribean International's Icon of the Seas houses six record-breaking waterslides including the world's largest waterpark at sea, seven pools, and nine whirlpools. It also has a "chill island," a pool deck that features a swim-up bar.
The enormous vessel can carry 7,600 passengers and 2,350 crew members, making the maximum capacity roughly around 10,000 people.
Foodie passengers can indulge themselves as the vessel provides 20 decks and eight different neighborhoods that offer more than 40 ways to dine, drink, and be entertained, many of which are included in the cruise fare.
Moreover, families can choose from the 28 types of accommodation. This includes the Family Infinite Balcony and Surfside Family Suite, which feature children’s alcoves tucked away from adults.
Last June 22, the ship successfully completed its initial round of sea trials. It traveled hundreds of miles where the main engines, hull, brake systems, steering, noise, and vibration levels were all tested.
“Everything was done on time as outlined in the schedule, despite her departure being delayed due to wind conditions,” Royal Caribbean said.
Another ship in the Royal Caribbean line, Wonder of the Seas, currently holds the title of largest cruise ship in the world. It made its first voyage just last year and is slightly shorter at 1,188 feet in length, with only 18 decks to explore.
