Heads up, travelers!

You can expect cheaper ticket prices in June with a drop in fuel surcharge rate for the entire month.

In a May 16 advisory, the Civil Aeronautics Board confirmed that fuel surcharge has been lowered from Level 5 to Level 4 with an effectivity period of June 1 to 30.

Fuel surcharge for domestic flights for each passenger range from P117 to P342 under Level 4. International travelers, meanwhile, will be charged a fuel surcharge of P385.70 to P2,867.82, depending on the distance.

“Airlines wishing to impose or collect fuel surcharge for the same period must file its application with this Office on or before the effectivity period, with fuel surcharge rates not exceeding the above-stated level,” it read.

“For fuel surcharge to be collected in equivalent currency, the applicable conversion rate for the same period is 1 USD = 55.45 PHP,” it noted.

This is pursuant to CAB Resolution No. 25 (BM 04-05-23-2022), which provides a passenger fuel surcharge matrix. The resolution defines airline fuel surcharges as optional fees that are imposed and collected by airlines to recover fuel costs and stem losses caused by upward spikes in fuel costs.
