Newborn baby mauled to death by pet dog that 'hadn't been fed all day'

A couple lost their newborn daughter after their pet dog that allegedly "hadn't been fed all day" mauled her to death.

Citing local media outlets, PEOPLE reported that the five-month-old baby, identified as Isis da Silva Sobrinho, was left alone in the house by her parents as they went to go shopping for groceries.

While Isis’ uncle was also in their home, reports detailed that he was busy preparing for a barbecue party in the backyard. He explained to authorities that he did not realize the child had been left alone as he thought the mother was still inside with his niece.

As Isis slept on a couch, she was then attacked by the family dog and was left with several bite marks and a torn pelvis.

Her cries were heard by her uncle, but he wasn't too concerned about what had happened as he believed the child was in her mother’s care. By the time that he saw her condition, it was already too late. Isis was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Reports stated that the dog belonged to the baby's grandparents and that it had been with the family for five years now.

While they admitted that the dog would become aggressive towards visitors, it had never attacked any family members and had a good relationship with the children.

After investigation, authorities found that the dog had not been fed that day and was believed to have been hungry at the time of the attack.

Following the incident, her parents have been put behind bars by the police and have been charged with manslaughter without intent to kill.

They have since been released after paying about 1,412 Brazilian real (P15,490).
