Wolfgang’s: Back-to-back openings in the south
Wolfgang’s Steakhouse Grill gives the Visayas dining scene a taste of New York with two new restaurant openings in Cebu and Iloilo.
Cebu gets a taste of the famed New York steak as Wolfgang’s Steakhouse Grill opened its first-ever Cebu location in SM City Cebu, marking a major milestone for the brand’s expansion in the Philippines The legendary Wolfgang’s Steakhouse legacy is now accessible to Cebuanos with the new Grill concept offering a more relaxed yet equally refined dining experience.
The Grill stays true to the brand’s commitment to premium quality, exceptional service, and timeless culinary excellence. New savory delights have been added to the menu, which diners can order from lunch to late night. These new offerings include the New York-style Pastrami Sandwich, Parihuela (a robust Peruvian seafood soup), and an added dessert of Baked Alaska. The gastronomic adventure continues with tasty bites of Short Rib Quesadillas, Skirt Steak Tacos, and more.
Cebuanos can now indulge in melt-in-your-mouth steaks, using only dry-aged USDA Prime Black Angus beef shipped directly (chilled and never frozen) from the US and delivered to all Wolfgang’s Steakhouse restaurants in the Philippines.
Two days after the Cebu opening, Wolfgang’s unveiled it newest store at Megaworld’s Iloilo Business Park, which marked the brand’s first foray into Iloilo, a city distinguished as a UNESCO creative City of Gastronomy.
At the heart of the experience is, like any other Wolfgang’s, is the USDA Prime Black Angus beef, flown in chilled and dry-aged in-house for an average of 28 days. All Wolfgang’s Steakhouse locations have a dry-aging room on premise, ensuring excellent quality. Other signature offerings include the Porterhouse (my personal favorite), Rib Eye and Filet Mignon cuts. Complementing these staples are the classic Crab Cake, creamy Mashed Potatoes, and my favorite Creamed Spinach served in the Philippines.
The Iloilo Grill will showcase the timeless elegance of a classic New York steakhouse, featuring the brand’s signature old-world charm combined with a fresh contemporary grill aesthetic. It will also feature a wine cellar and a full-service bar that will be a perfect backdrop for power lunches that transition seamlessly to a relaxed late-night lounge. Ilonggos can now expect the same uncompromising quality that has earned Wolfgang’s global acclaim.
Leading the brand’s expansion into the Visayas region is Peter Zwiener, co-founder and president of Wolfgang’s Steakhouse International. Zwiener has been the driving force behind the brand’s growth from its original Manhattan location to its numerous global destinations, ensuring that the standards of New York dining are maintained in every city that they open.
Peter attended the US Air Force Academy before entering Columbia University, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He then went to the University of Chicago for his MBA in Finance and Econometrics. After graduation, he spent 16 years working as an investment banker, eventually leaving to open Wolfgang’s Steakhouse with his father, Wolfgang Zwiener, who, for over 40 years, honed and mastered his craft in the steak business. He began his career in the restaurant industry working at various establishments in Europe and moved to the United States in 1960 where he held the role of head waiter at an iconic steakhouse in New York.
With the desire to create his own legacy, Wolfgang opened his eponymous steakhouse in Manhattan in 2004 on 4 Park Avenue (the former Vanderbilt Hotel), and eventually opened worldwide. The steakhouse found its way to the Philippines in 2016, and 10 years later, now includes Cebu and Iloilo, the eighth location in the Philippines and the 46th worldwide.
