PH’s internet speed has apparently been improving
February speed test results from internet testing, data, and analysis site Ookla.com have found that the Philippines' internet speed has been gradually improving this year—so far, that is.
While the country generally ranks low on the global scale, February proved to be an improvement as we’ve ascended eight spots for mobile data speed and eight spots for fixed broadband speed.
Per Ookla, PH now ranks 83rd in the world in mobile data with an average speed of 26.24 Mbps. January’s data was 25.77 Mbps. Meanwhile, our February fixed download speed of 38.46 Mbps brings us to a cool 92nd place worldwide.
They’re not exactly winning numbers but, hey, we’ll take what we can get.
Ookla regularly updates their results every mid-month for the previous month, with the improving speed potentially coming from telecoms like Globe and PLDT upgrading their infrastructure sites to rival the coming of the third telco, DITO Telecommunity.
Meanwhile, Ookla hailed PLDT Inc. and subsidiary Smart Communications Inc. as the country’s fastest fixed and mobile internet network of 2020.
With Filipinos gradually re-entering new types of of lockdowns this March amid the COVID-19 surges, we’ll need all the fast internet we can get.
