Longing for some time away from the hustle and bustle?

This doesn’t always mean booking a hotel room for a staycation or a beach resort for a sun-soaked getaway. There are moments when more than a “Do Not Disturb” sign in a room and a different environment with unfamiliar faces are needed for you to unwind, recharge, or feel whole again.

How does staying on a private, secluded island sound to you? It’s ideal for so many people, but the thing is it’s also heavy on the wallet. What if we tell you that there are also affordable hidden gems in the Philippines that don’t feel like they’re just a few hours away from the metro? Yes, they’re no Amanpulo, Banwa, or Balesin, but having a peaceful island all to yourself and your friends could give you an experience like no other as you bask in the glory of nature.

Here are some of the country’s private islands where you’d be happy to disconnect to connect for P5,000 or less per night.

North Cay Nature Island (P5,000/night)

Nestled in Busuanga, Palawan, North Cay Nature Island offers full board meals, accommodation, land transfers from the airport to the island and back, speedboat transfers, and use of all facilities and amenities.

The 1.7-hectare island boasts two villas: a Fan Villa with three rooms (good for six pax) and Aircon Villa with two rooms (good for ten pax).

Aircon Villa

A myriad of activities is in store for you—from snorkeling, kayaking, and paddleboarding, to watching movies and enjoying a karaoke session with your loved ones to your hearts’ content, to simply appreciating the beauty of the sunset.

The place is available for rent for only P5,000 per person/night (minimum of four pax per booking). There’s also a special discounted price for bigger groups.

Sundang Island (P4,929/night)

Just a three-hour ride from Manila, Sundang Island (Cavinti, Laguna) is situated in a lovely lake in the Sierra Madre mountains. It features an 80-square-meter house with one bedroom, one kitchen, two bathrooms, and a living room.

The bungalow is not fancy, but its wooden touches give it a sense of warmth and relaxation that could easily make it feel like your home away from home. It’s powered by a generator until midnight, but you may opt to have it turned on the whole day for a fee.

You and your friends can relax in a queen-sized bed, separate day bed, and comfortable sleeping mats after spending a day with the nature, swimming in the lake, making s’mores on a campfire, playing some board games, grilling, eating, and simply doing nothing.

Sundang Island is available for rent for only P4,929 per night.

Isla Serenidad (P4,798/night)

Isla Serenidad is located near Sundang Island in Cavinti, Laguna. Surrounded by nature and the breathtaking beauty of Lumot Lake, it’s an “unspoiled, off-grid, solar-powered, semi-secluded, and self-catered private island” that has two shower areas, a toilet and bath, and an outside sink with running filtered water.

The place features a Cabana Hut with one double-sized mattress for two pax and an extra floor mattress for two more guests. It has a square frame and glass windows treating guests to a good view of the lake and the sunset.

The Lakeside Hut, which lies right at the center of the island, has glass panels, sliding door, and a front porch. It also comes with a double-sized mattress for two people, extra floor mattress, and a solar-powered fan.

“Only one group (minimum of 4 pax to 8 pax) will be accommodated on two glamping huts per booking, hence the exclusive island stay. Larger groups (10-20 pax) are advised to bring their own tents for a traditional camping experience in a private island glamping hub setting,” Isla Serenidad noted in a post.

Since they want to offer you the best time with nature, Isla Serenidad has no Wi-Fi. Instead, you can go swimming and kayaking in the lake, have some good conversations by the bonfire, and forge better connections with your friends during your vacation. You can rent the stunning island for P4,798 per night.
