Listening to K-Pop such as the music of BTS or TWICE has become a staple bonding and entertainment experience for most Filipino families during quarantine.

For wonder mom and radio personality Riki Flo, K-Pop opened a new world of shared experiences with her family. Streaming music videos also allowed her to discover her children’s hidden talent in dancing.

“The entire family became part of the A.R.M.Y,” Riki shares in her latest IGTV video referring to the fan base of the K-Pop group, BTS. In this video, Riki reveals that she herself has Korean blood through her grandmother, who’s a full-blooded Korean, and shares how her son Calix loves the music of BTS so much that he has to listen to it every day.

A mom of two young and energetic kids—Calix and Dandy—Riki knew that spending time in isolation would be difficult. When news of the lockdown first broke, she bought art supplies for her kids to brighten things up for them.

“I realized that spending time at home with people you love the most is a luxury, and when life got too real, I was reminded of that. Even though we didn’t have as many outdoor adventures this year, we made many memories at home which allowed us to become closer,” she said.

Riki’s family also developed a shared love for plants, flowers, and insects. Researching online about the new plants and insects they discovered has become a family activity.

“As a mom, I can say that I saw and learned more about my kids, their interests and their talents. I wouldn’t have been able to get closer to them if I wasn’t working from home,” Riki said.

Bonding in online learning

The internet is not just a source of the latest news, information, and entertainment for Riki’s family. With PLDT Home Fibr, Riki’s four-year-old son Calix was able to continue with his kindergarten classes.

“At first, it was difficult for him to understand why everything had to be through a computer screen. But now, we have all adapted. Mornings are smoother now. I’m also thankful because my husband and I tag-team when it comes to Calix’s online classes. He prints the materials and I sit in and facilitate the actual class,” she said.

Riki’s family wants a consistent and stable internet connection at home, and with the PLDT Home Wifi mesh system, they get to discover new ways to work, learn and play in every part of their house. In her IGTV, Riki reminds her viewers, “I highly recommend the PLDT Home Wifi Mesh system especially if you want that fast and seamless internet connection all throughout your home for you and your family.”
