Pedal cars, jogging, and Zumba: Ortigas' Open Street Sundays are back

By SAAB LARIOSA Published Nov 23, 2021 2:57 pm

On the weekdays, Pasig's Ortigas Center is a busy business district that holds condos, office buildings, and endless food delivery riders. But on Sundays, it becomes an idyllic leisure center that caters to bikers, joggers, and people that just want to take a walk on the wide carless road.

Though it's always been a pedestrian-friendly street, Ortigas' Emerald Avenue is back with Open Street Sundays as part of the city's "Carless Sundays" initiative.

During Open Street Sundays, cars are now allowed to pass Emerald Avenue to make way for residents to take a breather during the weekends.

With the pandemic halting the activities for almost two years, the Pasig City Public Information Office (PIO) has shared that it's now made a comeback.

In photos taken on Sunday, Nov. 21, kids riding rentable pedal cars, Zumba dancing, jogging, and even dogs can be seen enjoying the open city strip.

Open Street Sundays are open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. every Sunday. Motorists driving through Emerald Avenue at the time should also take note that they are only allowed to pass on foot.

The Pasig PIO also reminds goers to follow health protocols such as physical distancing and the wearing of face masks.
