Muu Bangkok: Where luxury meets joy
Great things really do come in small packages.
I’ve just returned from a fantastic trip and, by chance, I stumbled upon a true gem of a small luxury hotel in the Thonglor district of Bangkok called Muu Bangkok.
Truthfully, I was looking for a hotel near the office of the famous architect Bill Bensley, with whom I had a remarkable meeting, and Muu Bangkok turned out to be right in the neighborhood.
Tucked into this vibrant district, Muu Bangkok immediately feels like a precious discovery. Charming general manager Christian Oliver Zunk shared that Muu is a proudly local Thai hotel with impressive international standards.
Muu is young—only three years in the industry—but is already part of the distinguished Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Winsome Khun Natto, marketing communications executive of Muu, shared the hotel’s story with us. The hotel’s façade blends quietly into its surroundings. As we stepped inside, we were welcomed by calm, personal, and understated elegance. At the posh Social Club, where eclectic design prevails, I was delighted to sign my book, 60 Dream Holidays Around the World, for my newfound friend, Khun Natto.
Muu doesn’t need to shout for attention; its charm lies in its people. It radiates warmth and makes you feel at home while still showering you with all the attention of a luxury stay.
I found Thonglor to be one of those rare places that effortlessly balances zest and ease. It is filled with shops and restaurants but is never chaotic—busy yet sophisticated. It is wonderfully connected to all forms of transportation to explore Bangkok, ready to take your adventures exactly where you want to go, when you want to go.
Muu’s signature hospitality was exemplified by our favorite, Khun Suriya, whose red shoes made a svelte statement as he went out of his way to assist us. Khun Doi, the front-of-house manager, had everything excellently arranged, and she even graciously escorted us to the shuttle that led to the boat, which took us to Pratunam Station in just 15 minutes.
The Thonglor neighborhood is an outstanding attraction for tourists. It offers visitors various cafés, experiential dining establishments, local bars, and unique retail stores to explore. The area provides an ideal environment for travelers who enjoy discovering new places on foot, via the BTS Skytrain system, or by taxi. Just a few steps away from Muu Bangkok is Don Don Donki Mall, famous for Japan-based goods, restaurants, and entertainment. The lower basement of Muu Bangkok includes a 24-hour grocery store, several restaurants, and a 7-Eleven, providing convenient access for late-night customers and spontaneous shopping.
The Muu tuk-tuk service demonstrates this “thoughtful engagement,” providing smooth connectivity from the hotel to Thonglor Pier and other preferred destinations. Boat transportation from Muu to Pratunam Station costs only 16 baht per trip.
My sister Jaqui, cousin Judith Campos, friends Vicky Garcia, Mel Martinez, Clang Garcia, Michael Merosa, and I truly enjoyed the impressive daily breakfast spread—from local and regional dishes to eggs cooked any way you like, pancakes, croissants, jams, yogurt, smoothies, and more. Right after breakfast, we boarded the shuttle that took us to the boat at Thonglor Pier. We shopped at Big C for food ingredients, which we turned into delicious, authentic Thai dishes that we cooked in the comfort of our two-bedroom residence at Muu, replete with a full kitchen, a huge refrigerator, and other appliances.
Our evenings were dedicated to experiencing some of the most vibrant restaurants in Bangkok, conveniently located just a few blocks away from our hotel. No matter where we went, we always looked forward to returning to the comforts of our small luxury hotel, far from the buzz and noise outside.
It is truly gratifying to find a diamond that scintillates in the place where it is found. Muu Bangkok is not about grandiosity; it is about thoughtful details, comfort, and a strong sense of home. It feels intimate and exclusive, yet engaging. Chic and lively, this treasured find—Muu Bangkok —is like an effervescent sweet that your palate keeps wanting more of. Discovering the Muu community, which encompasses everything my family, friends, and I love in a hotel and its nearby attractions, has put a perennial smile on our faces. It is a place where you want to spend your time, and even after you leave, your heart remembers the wonderful memories made there.
