LOOK: Seafood dishes to sink your teeth into at new Tung Lok in Greenhills Mall
Tung Lok Seafood has opened a new branch in the Philippines at the Greenhills Mall in San Juan.
The Singapore-based restaurant, which has two other spaces in Metro Manila, welcomed the public to its newest spot on Oct. 25.
Located on the ground floor of GH Mall, the new restaurant can host up to 113 diners. For those who want to hold a gathering with family or a reunion with friends, the branch also has private rooms available.
The space has an upscale but homey vibe with round tables fitted with lazy Susans in the middle for easy food-sharing.
PhilSTAR L!fe attended the opening of the new branch and got to try some of Tung Look Seafood's signature dishes. Here are some dishes to try when you visit.
Appetizers
You haven't eaten at Tung Lok Seafood until you've tried one of their best-selling appetizers, the Crispy Fish Skin with Salted Egg. Despite being coated in sauce, the salted egg flavor isn't empowering and the fish skin is still crunchy and filled with texture.
Another must-try is the Pork Bakkwa with Salad, which consists of sweet dried meat and a salad with cucumbers, tomatoes, etc. The pork itself had a nice, subtle flavor.
Additionally, the restaurant offers freshly made Dimsum such as pork siu mai, steamed shrimp dumplings (Har Gao), steamed chicken feet, steamed pork spareribs, and Hokkien Roll.
Mains
Can't miss out on crab and prawn dishes when dining at a seafood restaurant! On Tung Lok's menu, you can try different cooks of crab, including sumptuous Salted Egg Crab, Steamed Crab in Black Pepper Sauce, and Glutinous Rice with Crab.
Meanwhile, the Collagen Fish Soup is a great palate cleanser as the dish, composed of steamed fish, broth, and vegetables. It cuts down the richness from other food like crab.
If you're looking for a more spicy soup, opt for the Laksa Noodles. It's got that right amount of kick for those craving something hot.
Those who want a sweeter main course can try the stir-fried Prawns in Crispy Oats—yes, you read that right, the prawns in this dish are covered in rolled oats. It actually tastes nice as you don't get much of a fishy taste to the seafood.
If you're not big on seafood, Tung Lok has other offerings including the Three Cup Chicken and the sauteed Chinese spinach with three kinds of egg (chicken egg, salted egg, and century egg).
Desserts
For desserts, a must-try to close your meal is the new Honeycomb Cake, a steamed pastry with a molasses-like flavor and a honeycomb pattern. The cake is soft and its texture is reminiscent of Pinoy kakanin with its gelatinous feel. It has a rich and dark flavor to it that makes it not too sweet.
Tung Lok has two other branches in Metro Manila: S Maison at Conrad Manila in Pasay City and Gateway Mall 2 in Quezon City.
