Sakura to bloom sooner than usual in Tokyo, Japan

Oh, the beauty of cherry blossoms.

This year, it’s set to show off its exquisite blooms in Tokyo on March 23—three days ahead of its expected schedule—with the Japan Meteorological Corporation’s prediction of the early arrival of spring.

According to the report, the lovely pink petals could reach peak bloom by March 31.

Just a day after Tokyo, Hiroshima may get enchanted by the sakura three days sooner than its usual date. As Kyoto looks forward to seeing these pretty flowers on the 27th (a day earlier than usual), Osaka is foreseen to do so on the 28th. As for Sapporo, they may start to appear on May 3.

It’s important to note, however, that it may still depend on weather conditions in the country and the forecast will be updated later this month.

Missing Japan? Unfortunately, it had to close its borders “until at least Jan. 31 to all new foreign arrivals except foreign residents of Japan or under special circumstances” due to the coronavirus outbreak, according to Japan Guide.

"It is currently undecided when regular tourists will again be able to enter the country, but it is unlikely to happen in considerable numbers before autumn 2021 after the end of the Olympic and Paralympic games," the report said.

For now, you may enjoy the feeling of hanami—or "flower viewing"—by taking this virtual tour by Google Earth or simply growing your own sakura tree at home.
