Last call for dasters: Local brand Owa Sylvia is closing up shop

Published Feb 02, 2025 5:10 pm

Local clothing brand Owa Sylvia bid its fans goodbye as it announced its closure.

The shop posted its last call for its famed dasters on Feb. 1 on Instagram.

"After almost [five] years and 26 designs, the [Owa Sylvia] project finally comes to a close," it wrote.

"So much of Owa's love went into each of these dresses and I know they'll forever live on with you, our wonderful wonderful clients. My life's work! My love letter! Thank you for giving us the privilege of dressing you."

According to the brand, they are still accepting orders for all colors in stock until the end of Feb. 5 through their website.

These stylish asters are made by legendary dressmaker Sylvia Borja and her artisans in Marikina. They come in different styles—from mini to maxi—and colors like eggshell, strawberry, butter, sky, mandarin, sage, midnight, ink, and more.

Apart from the vintage look, the day dresses also come with pockets that make them comfortable to wear.

In October 2024, they introduced a swirl daster design, a long panel dress with petal hem details and spaghetti straps; petal daster, a mini version of their swirl dress; and the turn daster, a mini dress with a scoop neckline and a box-pleated skirt.

Owa Sylvia started when Borja made personal protective equipment (PPE) for her family during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"This has been my livelihood since 1975. It has been my hobby since before I even got married, and when I got married, it became my business and, eventually, it turned out to be a good livelihood with which I raised my seven children," she said in a 2020 Philippine STAR interview.
