Marvel announces lineup of films for 'Phase Five' timeline

Heads up, Marvel fans! It's one superhero flick after another as Marvel announced its calendar for the entire Phase Five films as well as some of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Marvel President Kevin Feige unveiled the lineup on Saturday at the annual Comic-Con convention in San Diego, to an excited audience of more than 6,000. According to Feige, phases four to six will be known as "The Multiverse Saga".

The newest Marvel film released was Thor: Love and Thunder, which will be followed by Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which will be the last film in Phase Four. The official teaser was recently released and the synopsis follows the kingdom of Wakanda fighting to protect their nation from intervening world powers as they are dealing with King T'Challa's death. 

Here are the upcoming films for the next stages in the MCU:

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania - February 17, 2023

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is the third film the in the Ant-Man franchise, with the last one being released in 2018. Actors Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, and Michelle Pfeiffer are set to reprise their respective roles.

The films' director, Peyton Reed, returns once again to helm the project. The story will follow Scott and the family exploring the Quantum Realm and interacting with strange new creatures as they embark on an impossible adventure.

Secret Invasion - Spring 2023

Secret Invasion is an upcoming conspiracy thriller series on Disney+ that stars Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Medolsohn as Talos as they fight shapeshifting aliens have infiltrated Earth. Joining the cast are Kingsley Ben-Adir, Emilia Clarke and Olivia Colman.

The series will have six episodes in total and will be directed by Thomas Bezucha and Ali Selim

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 - May 5, 2023

The Guardians of the Galaxy, namely Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Nebula, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and Mantis, will be returning to the big screens for their last adventure while facing a new adversary: the High Evolutionary.

Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel will all be back to give life to their Guardians of the Galaxy characters, along with new faces such as Midsommar's Will Poulter who will play Adam Warlock. Once again, James Gunn is set to direct the film.

Echo - Summer 2023

Echo serves as a spin-off series to the 2021 series Hawkeye and will focus its story on the Alaqua Cox’s character Maya Lopez, a.k.a. Echo, a deaf woman who is capable of perfectly copying another person's movements. It will be released on Disney+.

Loki Season 2 - Summer 2023

The news that Loki will be receiving a second season had long been confirmed back in July last year, but now, there is a definitive release date. Tom Hiddleston is set to return as the god of mischief, but that's all the information available for now.

The Marvels - July 28, 2023

The Marvels is intended to be both a sequel to the 2019 film Captain Marvel (2019) and a continuation of the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel. It follows Captain Marvel having a destined meeting with her number one fan and mutant hybrid Kamala Khan. It will be directed by Nia DaCosta and Brie Larson and Iman Vellani are expected to reprise their roles. 

Blade - November 3, 2023

The badass vampire hunter who originally appeared in the 1998 film will finally be joining the MCU. After being played by Wesley Snipes in the original trilogy, Blade will now be given life by Mahershala Ali. He had already previously played the character in the 2021 film Eternals, but only as a voice cameo appearance.

Ironheart - Fall 2023

Ironheart is another series to premiere on Disney+ and it focuses on young engineering student Riri Williams as she builds an iron suit reminiscent of Iron Man's. She will be played by Dominique Thorne.

Agatha: Coven of Chaos - Winter 2023

In yet another Disney+ series, Agatha: Coven of Chaos serves as a spinoff to the first MCU television series, WandaVision, and it centers on Kathryn Hahn's Agatha Harkness, Wanda and Vision's "nosy neighbor" who turned out to be a powerful witch. 

Daredevil: Born Again - Spring 2024

Marvel sure has a lot of television series in store for fans, and here's another one. Daredevil: Born Again sees Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio returning to reprise their characters Daredevil and Kingpin respectively. Cox first portrayed the vigilante hero in the 2015 series, which back then had been streaming on Netflix with three seasons.

Captain America: New World Order - May 3, 2024

After giving up the shield of his good friend Steve Rogers during the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) is finally ready for his own film as the new Captain America. Julius Onah was chosen to lead the film as its director.

Thunderbolts - July 26, 2024

To be directed by Jake Schreier, the final installment of Phase Five is ironically about an antihero team consisting mostly of reformed supervillains. 

For Phase Six, Marvel announced three much-awaited films. The first one is the latest adaptation of the Fantastic Four. The superhero team consisting of Mister Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch, and the Thing has already undergone many cinematic renditions, with one in 2005 and one in 2015 (there's even an unreleased 1994 film).

The Fantastic Four film is slated for a November 8, 2024 release. John Krasinski is expected to take on the character of Mister Fantastic after portraying him in a cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Marvel also announced two new Avengers films. The first one will be Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, set on May 2, 2025, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on November 7 of the same year.
