Ben&Ben to tackle pressing social issues in new album such as women empowerment, power abuse

Ben&Ben has evolved so much as a band over the years.

This time, the folk pop/pop rock group is sure to wow their Filipino fans with their new album showcasing musical masterpieces that tackle important issues like women empowerment and power abuse.

“The beautiful thing about art is it’s able to speak to people regardless,” lead vocalist Miguel Benjamin Guico said in a press conference. “Because of that, we wanted to really come in strong in our goal of letting the music and the art speak to people in ways that words cannot and that’s why we tackle different things with the songs.”

Sabel featuring KZ Tandingan focuses on the power of a woman. In the lyrics were thoughtful words that say “Sinubukan ka nilang pilayin, sinubukan ka nilang patahimikin. Akala ba nila hahayaan mo sila? Hindi na.”

“Kaya namin naisip si KZ kasi nung pinaguusapan namin kung ano ang kailangan ng song para maserve namin ‘yun nang buong-buo, kailangan namin ng super powerful na boses ng babae,” explained Guico, who added that the band decided to limit the instrumentation and put the spotlight on KZ’s voice in the song. That way, they could “really help create the space needed for the message that is cut through.”

Another fiery song to anticipate is Kapangyarihan featuring Filipino boy band SB19, which talks about abuse of power. The song shines with its powerful lyrics: “Huwag niyong tapakan ang katarungan. Akala niyo ba ang kapangyarihan ay nasa inyo? Sino ba kayo? Magwawagi ang katotohanan, ang kadiliman ay ibabagsak. Nagsisilbi ka dapat. Nagsisilbi ka dapat.”

“It’s about power and its goal is to really make everyone realize what we should do when we are given power,” shared Guico. “We shouldn’t really take it for granted and even more so, we should not abuse it.”

The beautiful thing about songs, according to the singer, is that they “depend on where you’re coming from as a listener, how you’ll embrace the message of the songs.”

“We’ll always fall in love with that, especially when it comes to the things happening around us,” he continued.

Pebble House Vol. 1 Kwaderno is slated for release on Sunday, Aug. 29 at 12 midnight. Other songs include Pasalubong feat. Moira dela Torre, Sugat feat. Munimuni, and Swimming Pool feat. Chito Miranda, among others.

Ben&Ben is also collaborating with hot love team DonBelle (Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano) for its music video for Upuan. It will be released on Sunday, August 29 at 6:00 p.m.
