PlayStation Studios has acquired Housemarque, the game developer known for Super Stardust HD, Dead Nation, and most recently the hit PlayStation 5 exclusive title, Returnal.

Housemarque is a Finnish video game developer based in Helsinki, Finland, founded in July 1995.

“Today is a big day for Housemarque and it has been over 26 years in the making,” said company co-founder and managing director, Ilari Kuittinen, in a blog post on the official PlayStation website.

“This gives our studio a clear future and a stable opportunity to continue delivering on gameplay centric approaches, while still experimenting with new methods of narrative delivery and pushing the boundaries of this modern artform,” he added.

Head of PlayStation Studios Hermen Hulst also expressed his welcome to the Finnish studio by saying that he is personally a fan of Housemarque since they made Super Stardust HD.

“Housemarque’s recent release of Returnal proves the studio is one with incredible vision, capable of creating memorable new games that resonate with our community,” Hulst added.

Returnal is one of the early games that were released for Sony’s next gen console PlayStation 5, and fans were very happy about the game’s overall mechanics and plot.

Hulst notes that the addition of Housemarque to their developers group will also enhance the creative power of PlayStation Studios.
