Sandara Park has finally parted ways with YG Entertainment after 17 years.

The Korean entertainment agency YG Entertainment confirmed Sandara’s departure on May 14, following the expiration of her exclusive contract. She has been with YG since 2004, where she later debuted as a member of 2NE1 in 2009. The group disbanded in 2016.

“It is with a very heavy heart that I leave YG, which has been my family, my caregiver, my home, my rock, and my everything since I came to Korea with no family or friends in 2004 to take on new challenges. I fell in love with the hip seniors here and grew along with the company for 17 years with the belief that I could become not only a colleague but also a real family member of the ‘YG family,’” Sandara shared on Instagram.

“Those years have been like a dream, filled with immeasurable memories and stage performances with my crew that blew people away. When 2NE1 broke up, it felt like everything was falling apart. Then for the next five years, I challenged myself in various genres with the mindset that I was starting all over again,” Sandara added.

She also expressed her love for 2NE1, a quartet that marked its 12th debut anniversary this month.

“I send my love to my 2NE1 members who I miss madly and love dearly. I hope to keep seeing you pursue diverse activities and pray that we will be together as one in person or together in spirit someday. Happy 12th anniversary, 2NE1!!!” she said.

Since 2NE1’s disbandment, Sandara remained in YG Entertainment as an actress and TV host. She’s one of the leading figures of the “Hallyu Wave" due to her popularity in South Korea and the Philippines.

We wish Sandara the best in the next stage of her career!
