Renewed for a second season, Ryan Murphy’s Monster series is back to tell the story of Lyle and Erik Menéndez, siblings who are convicted for killing their parents.

Netflix dropped on Monday, May 1 the title announcement for the new series, MONSTERS: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story. In the announcement video, the streaming platform played the actual 911 call where Lyle can be heard sobbing, reporting that his parents were shot.

In a Variety report, the Menéndez story will be one of the two additional installments of Murphy and Brennan’s anthology series after the massive success of Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. It is slated to be released in 2024.

The report also stated that Netflix would had “exclusive access” to the brothers to participate in the documentary feature.

In 1989, José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menéndez were fatally shot in their Beverly Hills home. After a series of investigations, their children Erik and Lyle became the suspects and were convicted, especially after Erik confessed to his psychologist.

They were sentenced to life without parole and are currently imprisoned at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in Southern California.

In their trial, their defense attorney Leslie Abramson argued that Lyle and Erik murdered their parents out of fear and that they suffered years of sexual abuse from their father Jose Menéndez.
