Chilean-American actor Pedro Pascal is reportedly in talks to play the superhero Reed Richards, a.k.a. Mr. Fantastic of Marvel's new Fantastic Four movie.

Deadline, citing anonymous sources, reported that scheduling is still being worked out for the film.

The 48-year-old actor has a tight schedule. His upcoming projects include the sequel to the epic historical drama Gladiator, the second season of the video game-inspired drama series The Last of Us, and the horror movie Weapons.

Sources said the deal is “far from done,” but Pascal is “headed in the right direction” to do the role.

Marvel has no comment on the matter, according to Deadline.

Richards was previously played by Welsh actor Ioan Gruffud in the 2005 movie, American actor Miles Teller in the 2015 reboot, and American actor John Krasinski in a cameo in the 2022 film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as an alternate version or “variant.”

The Fantastic Four is a superhero team comprising the ever-elastic Reeds; Sue Storm, or the light-bending and force-field projecting Invisible Woman; Johnny Storm, or the fire-wielding Human Torch; and Ben Grimm, or the rock-like The Thing.

There’s no news yet on who will play Invisible Woman, Human Torch, and The Thing in the new installment.

Marvel first announced plans for a new Fantastic Four movie in 2020. Matt Shakman of the miniseries WandaVision will serve as director.

It’s slated for theatrical release on May 2, 2025.

Pascal also has roles in Narcos, Game of Thrones, and The Mandalorian.
