Looks like ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ won’t be streaming in the Philippines anytime soon
The rising COVID-19 cases in the country have undeniably affected everyone, including movie-goers who were excited to watch the Philippine premiere of Spider-Man: No Way Home over the weekend.
With Metro Manila and most regions in the country under Alert Level 3, Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans have opted to skip the theatres for their safety against COVID-19 and its Omicron variant.
Some fans refunded their movie tickets while others were selling them online for discounted prices.

If seeing Tom Holland suit-up for Spider-Man: No Way Home on the big screen is still a no-go in your to-do list, streaming platforms are the way to go.
Recent MCU films released during the pandemic immediately streamed on Disney Plus after a few months of its theatrical release.
Black Widow was available on the streaming platform the same day it premiered in theatres. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings arrived on Disney Plus two months after showing in cinemas. And for November’s Eternals, it will be available to watch on the streaming platform on Jan. 12.
However, we won’t be seeing Spider-Man: No Way Home on any streaming platforms anytime soon.
Since Sony—not Disney or Marvel Studios—owns the movie rights to the third MCU Spidey film, Peter Parker’s multiverse will most likely stream first on Starz which has the first-pay-window rights to Sony films, according to The Hollywood Reporter (THR). Starz is available in the Philippines through the Lionsgate Play app.
“Most movies have a 90-day theatrical window, followed by a four-month home entertainment window when they are released on DVD and Blu-Ray as well as on online movie rental services such as Amazon and Google Play to buy or rent,” THR explained.
Last year’s Sony and Netflix deal covers a studio-to-streamer agreement beginning 2022, so we can expect Holland’s Spider-Man on Netflix sometime summer of 2023 or after.
And as for Sony’s deal with Disney Plus, the web-slinging Avenger won’t land on the platform after their Netflix run.
If you can’t wait for a year to watch Spider-Man: No Way Home, US retailers Amazon, Best Buy, Target and Vudu are now offering pre-orders on Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital. However, the release date has yet to be announced and Filipino fans might need a VPN to access these websites.
If THR’s report is accurate, Filipino fans can still expect No Way Home available to rent on Google Play or YouTube on the same day of the Blu-Ray and DVD release.
For now, it looks like Spider-Man: No Way Home won’t be streaming online in the Philippines anytime soon.
