Netflix just released a 32-minute behind-the-scenes special called Making The Witcher that shows viewers what it took to bring the epic dark fantasy series to life.

The TV adaptation based on the book series of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski follows the intertwined lives of solitary monster hunter Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra), and Ciri, Princess of Cintra (Freya Allan) all struggling to find their place in the world.

The behind-the-scenes special includes interviews with the cast and crew including showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich, Geralt of Rivia himself, Henry Cavill, and more.

If you’re a fan of the show who wants to dive deeper into the show’s fantasy lore, this short documentary series might pique your interest. See what goes into the visual effects and design behind supernatural creatures like the Striga, Sylvan and Kikimora, learn about the gothic high fashion behind costumes, and watch the actors during training sessions for those epic fight scenes.

The Witcher became a global hit after the first season started streaming on Netflix in December 2019. The publishing company for the original books (published from 1993 to 2013) even had to print half a million new copies because of the sudden global interest. The Witcher also has a series of fantasy action role-playing video games, which have been commercially successful.

The series resumed shooting its second season last August 17 in the UK under new coronavirus prevention measures after production was halted back in March. In the meantime, this Netflix special from the show might keep viewers entertained till then.
