Attention, Team Edward! An animated series on Twilight novel Midnight Sun has been given a straight-to-series order at Netflix.

Stephanie Meyer's companion novel, which was released in 2020, tells the story of the first Twilight book from Edward Cullen's perspective instead of Bella Swan's.

According to Netflix, the series' author Meyer will be an executive producer alongside Meghan Hibbett, Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen, Erik Feig, and Samie Kim Falvey.

Sinead Daly, who has worked on Tell Me Lies, The Get Down, Wolves, and The Waking Dead: World Beyond, will also be an executive producer and writer.

News of the Twilight animated series first made the rounds in March 2024 as Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns confirmed it in a media conference.

The original novel follows 17-year-old Bella as she moves from sunny Phoenix, Arizona to the small, rainy town of Forks, Washington. She falls in love with a mysterious boy, Edward, who turns out to be a vampire.

The series consists of four novels, Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn. A few other books, including the 2010 novella The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner based on a newborn vampire in the third novel, the gender-swapped 2015 novel Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined, and Midnight Sun from Edward's perspective.

Meyer's novels were adapted into a film series released from 2008 to 2012 starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner. The movies grossed over $3.36 billion (P189 billion) worldwide.
