'Bananas in Pyjamas' returns in live-action reboot
We're going to see B1 and B2 again!
The beloved kids' series is returning to production with a new live-action adaptation, 25 years after it last aired.
"The new series will stay true to the whimsical spirit of the original and introduce mischievous twins B1 and B2 to a new generation of young viewers," it wrote in its announcement.
The new series will return to the neighbourhood of Cuddles Avenue and will bring kids to a "playful world filled with music, humour, role playing and invention."
According to the Australian Broadcasting Corp.'s statement, the live-action reboot is part of the Federal Government’s three‑year funding allocation announced last year.
“Bananas in Pyjamas has long held a cherished place in Australian children’s television, delighting generations of families. With the support of additional funding, we’re thrilled to reimagine this playful series full of heart and humour for today’s young viewers in partnership with Windmill Production Company," ABC Director Screen Jennifer Collins said in a statement.
More details have yet to be announced.
The program was originally inspired by a song that gained popularity on Play School in the 1970s. The original live-action Bananas in Pyjamas premiered on ABC in 1992 and quickly became a favorite among preschool audiences in Australia and overseas. In the late 1990s, it aired in the Philippines with a Tagalog-dubbed version.
It ran until 2001, and later transitioned to a computer-animated format.
