'The Office' follow-up series is in the works
A follow-up series of The Office has been revealed to be in development.
According to entertainment outlet Variety, sources reported that The White Lotus actress Sabrina Impacciatore and About Time star Domhnall Gleeson will be part of the cast for the upcoming series.
Greg Daniels, one of the writers of the original sitcom, will be co-creating the series with Michael Koman, who helmed the comedy series Nathan For You.
The upcoming offering will not be a reboot of the 2005 sitcom, but it will be set in the same universe with new characters and plot.
More details, including the plot and Sabrina and Domhnall’s roles, are yet to be announced.
Sabrina is known for her role as hotel manager Valentina in the second season of The White Lotus, where she received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress In a Drama Series.
Domhnall, meanwhile, starred in the romantic film About Time with Rachel McAdams. He also played roles in Star Wars franchises including The Rise of Skywalker, The Last Jedi, and The Force Awakens. His latest project is the series Alice & Jack.
The Office is a 2005 sitcom with a “mockumentary” treatment. It starred Steve Carrell, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Ellie Kemper, and Rainn Wilson, among others.
Throughout its 201-episode run, the series earned numerous accolodations from prestigious award-giving bodies, such as the Peabodys, the Screen Actors Guild, the Golden Globes, and the Primetime Emmys.
