New ‘Uncharted’ footage details from CinemaCon 2021

The first footage for Sony's live-action adaptation of the hit PlayStation video game franchise Uncharted reportedly shows Tom Holland's Nathan Drake falling out of an airplane.

While no trailer has officially been released for the general public yet, Sony premiered some unseen footage from the film at the ongoing CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

According to media outlets such as ScreenRant and GeekTyrant, who were not allowed to share images or video recordings online, the teaser during Sony’s presentation were reminiscent of the film’s video game origins, including Sully at an auction and a teaser of an action sequence where Nathan Drake is seen falling out of a cargo plane.

Not much else has been revealed about the next big video game adaptation project, especially after the major announcement of Holland’s other major blockbuster Spider-Man: No Way Home

As reported by Gizmodo, a few sequences were shown in brief clips, including a shot of Sully saying, "I’m offering you a chance to find/discover things you’ve only read about," signalling the early origins of the adventurer. Another clip showed Nathan Drake entering a water-filled cave with a pirate ship at the end, most likely in the process of treasure hunting.

The money shot seems to be a major action sequence where Nathan Drake is seen falling out of a cargo plane with some cargo falling out with him. Finally, the sizzle reel ends with a shot of Sully at some sort of auction.

For those who have played the video games over the years, the cave with a pirate ship seems to be giving a nod to 2016’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, while the airplane scene is very reminiscent of a scene towards the end of 2011’s Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception where Nathan falls out of a plane above a desert on his search for the legendary lost city of Iram of the Pillars.

Only a few images have been officially released by Sony, including a first look at Holland as Nathan and images of ancient-looking relics, and many fans are eagerly awaiting the official trailer or any footage for the film.

Originally slated to be released in June 2016, the Uncharted film has been delayed several times with different names attached to star and direct.

Tom Holland officially came onboard the film in 2017, signaling that the film version would follow a younger version of its main character.

Mark Wahlberg stars as Victor "Sully" Sullivan, Nathan Drake's longtime mentor and partner who helps the young fortune hunter on his adventures.

Sophia Taylor also appears as Chloe Frazer, Nathan's former love interest and associate in the video games, and star of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, the standalone expansion to the hit franchise.

Production on the film took place throughout 2020 and at one point Sony planned on releasing the film in 2021.

Uncharted is set to debut in theaters on February 18, 2022.
