Sofronio Vasquez, the first Filipino and Asian champion of The Voice, shared his winning experience at Malacañang Palace on Wednesday, Jan. 8.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., together with First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, warmly welcomed Vasquez into the President's Hall and had a quick conversation about his journey to the international competition and how he felt when he bagged the title.

"Totoo pala yung moment yung parang nagpa-flashback sayo lahat ng... sorry naiiyak na ako, yung pinagdaanan mo," he said.

"Always po akong grateful cause I'm not... Nagpunta po ako doon to just try, so every round na pinipili ako ni Michael Bublé, parang culmination lang siya na 'I think we can make this work' so nagtiwala lang ako sa kanya," Vasquez added.

He remembered that supportive Filipinos in the US organized text brigades to show their support, stating, "Bumoto po sila."

Marcos also said that Vasquez's win was a great honor for Filipinos.

"Kami ang magpapa-thank you sa'yo dahil pinasikat mo na naman ang Pilipino. Sikat na naman tayo sa ginawa mo," the president said.

"Kaunti nalang, gawin naming national holiday yung pagkapanalo mo eh. Happy ang lahat ng Pinoy."

When asked about his future plans, Vasquez said that he had a record contract and hoped for a Philippine-based management.

"Si Michael Bublé nag-suggest na since I am from Asia, in the Philippines, dapat yung maghahandle is Philippines and iba yung sa America para maganda. Maganda naman po yung number of proposal."

Vasquez also serenaded the president and its visitors with his winning piece, A Million Dreams, and John Lennon's Imagine

Earlier this week, Sofronio also made a guest appearance on It's Showtime, the program where he previously competed in "Tawag ng Tanghalan" in 2019, achieving third place.

“Nag-reminisce lang ako, every time na nag-a-audition ako sa mga competitions, Tawag Ng Tanghalan ‘yung unang pumansin sa’kin,” he said.

“Hindi po tumigil ‘yung pangarap ko sa competition,” he said. “’Yung It’s Showtime mismo ‘yung nagbigay sa akin ng trabaho na maging vocal coach.”

Meanwhile, Vasquez will hold his debut solo concert in Cebu on Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

Ticket prices range from P1,300 (free seating) to P5,000 with a meet-and-greet with the singer. They are available via SM Tickets and the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino lobby.

Earlier in December, Vasquez was named the winner of The Voice season 26, making him the first Asian to win the title.

Mentored by Michael Bublé, he defeated other finalists, Danny Joseph (Team Reba), Jeremy Beloate (Team Snoop), Shye (Team Bublé), and Sydney Sterlace (Team Gwen).

He took home the $100,000 (P5,801,950) cash prize and a record deal with Universal Music Group.

During the blind audition, Sofronio performed I'm Goin' Down and picked Bublé as his coach.

Sofronio previously shared that if he were to win The Voice, he would use the prize money to bring his Filipina mother to the US to provide her with a "better life and future."
