Pixar's hit film 'Up' is getting a spin-off that shows Carl going on a first date again
If you watched Pixar's 2009 hit film Up, it's likely that you cried your eyes out to the emotional love story of Ellie and Carl Fredricksen. Now, prepare to experience the thrill of finding love again in Dug Days: Carl's Date.
The special short tells the story of how Dug's owner, the old and cranky Carl, is heading back to the dating scene years after his wife's demise.
His adventure begins as he reluctantly agrees to go out with a lady friend although he is not familiar with the ropes of modern dating. Nervous and anxious, he is then consoled by his fun-loving friend Dug, who gives him tips on making friends—with fellow dogs, that is.
The short film is a spin-off of Disney and Pixar's Up, as well as the studios' short film series Up: Dug Days that premiered on Sept. 1, 2021. The series chronicles the humorous misadventures of everyone's favorite Golden Retriever that all occur in his backyard.
Dugs Days writer and director Bob Peterson likewise spearheaded the production of Carl's Date. The Emmy Award winner also voices Dug's character.
Dugs Day: Carl's Date is set to premiere on Disney+ this 2023.
Editor's note: This story was updated to change the short film's initial release date from Feb. 10 to 2023 after Disney's representatives informed PhilSTRA L!fe about the change in schedule.
