Star City, the "Philippines' most loved amusement park," is finally reopening on Feb. 24 after over two years of closure.

The popular amusement park in Pasay said it will be open every Thursday to Sunday, from noon to 8 pm.

Last Jan. 5, it said it will reopen on Jan. 14, but pushed back due to the surge in COVID-19 cases at the time. That same day, the country saw 10,775 new daily infections, the first time that its coronavirus numbers surpassed 10,000 after settling in the three-digit mark since Nov. 24 last year and in the four-digit mark since Dec. 30.

The Department of Health (DOH) on Jan. 21 reported a record 291,618 total active cases. Last Jan. 15, new active cases had hit an all time high of 39,004.

New daily cases have started to simmer down to the thousands this month. The DOH on Feb. 1 recorded 9,493 fresh infections. Last Feb. 12, the country logged 3,792.

Star City closed up shop in October 2019, after a fire razed most of its premises and parts of the office of Manila Broadcasting Co., its sister company. While there were no reported casualties, property damage was pegged at one billion pesos.
