‘Horizon Forbidden West,’ 'Hitman III,' ‘Stray,’ more coming to PS5 in 2021

Sony has been hyping a handful of big games and exclusives ever since the build-up to the PlayStation 5’s release, and now the company has revealed release dates for some titles during CES 2021. 

Aside from announcing their expansion plan for new media projects starting with the upcoming Uncharted film and The Last of Us television series for HBO Max, PlayStation boss Jim Ryan also gave fans a glimpse of the games to expect in 2021 and beyond.

During its press conference at the virtual tech event, a sizzle reel of some games revealed the release information for the upcoming titles written in tiny text in a single slide. Here’s a roundup of the latest release dates for some of the PS5 titles coming this year.

Horizon Forbidden West 

The sequel to the hit Horizon Zero Dawn (2017) continues Aloy’s journey as she moves west to a far-future America to brave a majestic, but dangerous frontier, where she’ll face awe-inspiring machines and mysterious new threats.

The action role-playing game developed by Guerilla Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment is still slated for release sometime in 2021, though no specific date was listed.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

The upcoming third-person shooter platform game developed by Insomniac Games serves as the canonical continuation to Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus (2013) as well as a standalone title. The game is still scheduled for release in 2021.

Hitman III

Hitman III, the eighth main installment in the hitman series and third and final installment of the World of Assassination trilogy, following Hitman (2016) and Hitman 2 (2018), is set to be released on Jan. 20, 2021.

Returnal 

The third-person shooter, science fiction, psychological horror video game developed by Housemarque and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment is set to be released for the PS5 on Mar. 19, 2021.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits 

A story-driven action adventure, with a stunning visual aesthetic, combining exploration with fast-paced combat. Players travel with Kena, a young Spirit Guide on a quest to uncover the mysterious story surrounding the demise of the village. Kena is scheduled for release on March 2021.

Solar Ash 

This action adventure game brought to you by the same team as Hyper Light Drifter, takes players on a journey through a surreal, vivid and highly stylized world filled with mystery, wild high-speed traversal, endearing characters, and massive enemy encounters. Solar Ash will be released for the PS5 on June 2021.

Little Devil Inside 

An action-adventure video game developed and published by Neostream Interactive with single-player and co-operative multiplayer modes that follow the professional and personal lives of explorers searching for monsters and supernatural events in a 19th century-inspired world. Little Devil Inside will be released on July 2021.

Ghostwire Tokyo 

This action-adventure video game, and PS5 exclusive, played from a first-person perspective where the the player can use various psychic and paranormal abilities to defeat the ghosts and spirits haunting Tokyo. Ghostwire Tokyo will be released on October 2021.

Stray 

Stray, originally titled HK Project, puts players in the role of a clever stray cat, lost in a neon-lit cyberpunk world where humanity has been wiped away, leaving nothing but robots behind. This long awaited game where players will get to control an adorably cute cat with a tiny backpack, is slated for an October 2021 release.

Beyond 2021, Sony has also revealed that Square Enix’s Project Athia, a story-driven game from the Final Fantasy 15 development team that has the protagonist transported to a mysterious world, will be launching in January 2022. Meanwhile, CAPCOM’s new action-adventure game Pragmata, is coming later than expected and is now scheduled to be released sometime in 2023.
