Spotify introduces DJ, an AI-generated feature that lets users listen to their own ‘radio station'

After Google, Microsoft, and Opera, another company is adding AI to its technology, this time allowing users to listen to their own personal radio station.

Known for its personalized features like “Spotify Wrapped” and “Playlist in a Bottle,” Spotify adds another feature for you to enjoy.

On Feb. 22, the audio streaming app dropped its newest feature, DJ—an AI-powered feature that gives you personalized curated music in reference to your music taste with a commentary in its realistic voice, only one tap away.

If you’ve already memorized your playlist and got no time to create another one for you to listen to, Spotify’s DJ has got you covered. Here's how it works.

How it works

The AI DJ will easily give you customized music lineup combining the latest music releases and some of your old favorites. The playlist can be refreshed based on your feedback for a more fun and fresh experience.

To experience the new feature, head on to your music feed on Home and tap play on the DJ card, and then let Spotify DJ do its magic.

If the presented lineup isn’t your vibe, you can just tap the DJ button to change genre, artists, or mood.

The "stunningly realistic" DJ’s voice is based on Spotify’s Head of Cultural Partnerships Xavier “X” Jernigan, who previously hosted Spotify’s morning show podcast, The Get Up.

Having "X" as their first model DJ, Spotify shared that they plan on innovating the newest feature to expand the range of available voices in the future.

The OpenAI-powered feature is currently in beta testing, but it is now available for Spotify Premium subscribers in the United States and Canada.
