Here’s how ‘Emily in Paris’ 4 will be different from its past seasons
The fourth season of Emily in Paris is set to be different from its previous installments in more ways than one.
Season 4 takes off from Camille (Camille Razat) and Gabriel’s (Lucas Bravo) cancelled wedding. Emily (Lily Collins) is torn between her feelings for Gabriel and Alfie (Lucien Laviscount). Her best friend, Mindy (Ashley Park), also faces a problem of her own as she crosses paths with someone while preparing for the Eurovision Song Contest with her band.
While it will still have the City of Light as its backdrop, the upcoming entry will be set in a different season, so fans who are also into fashion can expect a cozy but stylish wardrobe from the cast. “It’s the first time we’re seeing the characters in winter,” Park told PhilSTAR L!fe in a roundtable interview.
Emily in Paris fans can also look forward to seeing another side of its characters. “It feels like a different season, not in terms of the series, but they're all kind of deeper within themselves,” Park said as Laviscount noted that the winter setting would greatly help the viewers “feel the deep emotions” of the characters in the story.
It’s quite consistent with what Collins let slip in an InStyle interview earlier this month—that the fourth installment will be “a season of vulnerability”—teasing “messy” moments as well as “emotional breakdowns.”
In the same media roundtable attended by L!fe, Laviscount hinted at how things are going to be “chaotic”—as he put it—for Alfie in Season 4. “It’s chaotic, it’s a little bit more heartbreaking,” he shared. “He’s kind of battling with his selflessness and also his own desires.” (In a 2022 interview with Deadline, Emily in Paris creator Darren Star revealed that while there’s a chance that Alfie will no longer be in the picture “romantically,” he would still have a reason “to be in Paris.”)
Park echoed Laviscount’s description of the soon-to-be-released installment as it would show the connection among all the characters of the show. “I feel like this season, all of the different webs, there’s a lot of interacting for parts of Emily’s world and stuff and I think that it’s gotten a lot messier and chaotic was a good way to put it,” she said, “but in a good way.”
Emily in Paris follows the story of Chicago marketing executive Emily who ends up working in Paris and embracing “her adventurous new life while juggling work, friends, and romance.” The fourth season will be released in two parts: the first one on Aug. 15 and the second on Sept. 12.
The Netflix offering was created by Star, who also serves as its executive producer together with Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, Andrew Fleming, Alison Brown, Robin Schiff, Stephen Brown, Grant Sloss, and Joe Murphy. Its producers, meanwhile, are Collins, Ryan McCormick, Raphaël Benoliel, and Jake Fuller.
