Fall Out Boy releases limited-edition vinyl made with their actual tears

By John Patrick Magno Ranara Published May 04, 2023 3:37 pm

Fall Out Boy has dropped a vinyl record infused with their own tears.

The American rock band made the announcement on their social media pages, saying that the so-called "crynyl" records are for their latest studio album So Much (for) Stardust. These had been infused with their real tears created in collaboration with Los Angeles-based art studio BRAIN and are only available in 50 copies.

According to the website, what makes these items valuable is that "when you listen to a crynyl release, you're not just listening to what the artist played, you're feeling what they felt."

"Every crynyl release is filled with actual tears from the artist. We gather tear samples using sterile collection kits, dilute them into a sonically-optimized solution, then seal them into each record using proprietary crynylseal technology," its description read.

The one-of-a-kind record includes one double-sided, tear-filled long play and is packaged in a gatefold box with a "built-in tissue dispenser" so fans can wipe away their own tears during their listening session.

While the items have already been sold out, the band announced that they have held a few copies back and will be sharing details on how to get those soon.

So Much (for) Stardust is Fall Out Boy's eighth album, released on March 24. Prior to this, member Trohman disclosed that he will be taking a break from the group as he wants to prioritize taking care of his mental health

"Without divulging all the details, I must disclose that my mental health has rapidly deteriorated over the past several years. So, to avoid fading away and never returning, I will be taking a break from work which regrettably includes stepping away from Fall Out Boy for a spell," he explained on the group's official Twitter page.

Trohman serves as the guitarist of the group. Other members include lead vocalist and guitarist Patrick Stump, bassist Pete Wentz, and drummer Andy Hurley.
