The Pinay beauties took to their social media pages to express their praises for Gomez, who represented the Philippines to the 70th edition of the pageant on Monday, Dec. 13 (Philippine time) in Eilat, Israel. She managed to make it to the question-and-answer portion of the pageant, where she was asked about her thoughts on the universal vaccine passport. She ended her journey to the country’s fifth Miss U crown after that segment.
Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach said that as people set higher expectations for PH bets every year, it’s important to remember how challenging it can be to make it to the top 5 of the pageant.
Pataas ng pataas expectations natin every year pero wag rin sana natin kalimutan na ang hirap kayang umabot sa top 5. Let’s celebrate that victory too! #MissUniverse2021 #70thMissUniverse #MissUniverse— Pia Wurtzbach (@PiaWurtzbach) December 13, 2021
Meanwhile, Catriona Gray—our very own Miss Universe 2018—kept it short yet sweet: “You made us so proud, Bea!”
Miss Universe Philippines 2020 titleholder Rabiya Mateo, who shared a photo of her crowning Gomez as her successor the night before the Miss U tilt, reposted MUP’s congratulatory post for the latter on Instagram.
Miss Universe 2012 first runner-up Janine Tugonon called it an “awesome performance” by Gomez. She also added clapping emojis after seemingly pointing out how showstopping her evening gown was.
As expected, Miss Universe 2014 Top 10 semifinalist MJ Lastimosa drew some laughs as she expressed her pride for this year’s Top 5 finisher. Uploading her famous meme with Gomez, she jokingly wrote in the caption: “Proud ako sayo pero wala paring top 5 top 5 pag nagkita tayo.”
