Eric Carmen, who is best known as the singer of timeless hits All by Myself and Love is All That Matters, has died. He was 74.

His death was confirmed in a post on his official website. “It is with tremendous sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Eric Carmen,” it read, revealing that he passed away in his sleep last weekend.

“It brought him great joy to know, that for decades, his music touched so many and will be his lasting legacy,” the statement said.

“Please respect the family’s privacy as we mourn our enormous loss,” it added.

The cause of his death was not specified.

Eric was the lead vocalist of The Raspberries, a pop rock group that was formed in the 1970s. The band became known for the songs Go All the Way and I Wanna Be with You.

Following the disbandment of The Raspberries, Eric focused on being a solo artist. Aside from All by Myself and Love is All That Matters, he also became famous for the hit tracks Hungry Eyes and Make Me Lose Control.

The Raspberries reunited in 1999, but Eric opted to stick with his solo career. He, however, agreed to join the band onstage for a few shows. Their last performance was in 2007.
