'Resident Evil' April 2021 showcase: game demo, Netflix series trailer and more
Capcom wrapped up their latest Resident Evil Showcase featuring various projects in the survival horror franchise in a digital event on Thursday (April 15).
The livestream gave fans a new look at the upcoming Resident Evil Village and shared that a new demo is coming next week ahead of the video game’s release in May. The event also officially revealed that Resident Evil 4 VR will soon be making its way to the Oculus Quest 2, gave a quick look at Village's Mercenaries mode, and premiered a new character trailer for the Netflix CGI series Infinite Darkness, among other updates.

Resident Evil 4 VR announced for Oculus Quest 2
Capcom announced that Resident Evil 4 will be rereleased in virtual reality on the Oculus Quest 2 headset. This version of RE4 will be in first-person and a short gameplay teaser and early footage showed things like Leon holding weapons, interacting with a virtual attache case, and using a virtual hand-crank for one of the puzzles. More details will be revealed during the Oculus Games Showcase on April 21.
Time-limited demo gameplay announced for all platforms
While PlayStation 5 owners have already previously gotten a taste of Resident Evil Village, all platforms will soon be able to try out a time-limited gameplay demo.
The demo is is expected to arrive next week for PlayStation owners, and in early May for all platforms. Players will be able to explore both the village and castle portions of the game for one hour.
PlayStation owners will have early access to the demo next week, and the village and castle portions will be separated into two days. Take note that each demo will be available to download and play over an eight-hour window only , and the game time is limited to 30 minutes for each section.
Here’s the schedule for the demo release window.
- North America: May 1, 5 pm PT - May 2, 5 pm PT
- Europe: May 2, 2 am CEST - May 3, 2 am CEST
- Asia: May 2, 8 am HKT - May 3, 8 am HK
The demo will arrive for all platforms—PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Steam, and Google Stadia—on May 1/2, and players will have an hour to play both the Village Demo and Castle Demo, and can choose how they split their time.
Village Demo:
- North America: April 17, 5 pm PT - April 18, 1 am PT
- Europe: April 18, 7 pm CEST - April 19, 3 am CEST
- Asia: April 18, 5 pm HKT - April 19, 1 am HKT
Castle Demo:
- North America: April 24, 5 pm PT - April 25, 1 am PT
- Europe: April 25, 7 pm CEST - April 26, 3 am CEST
- Asia: April 25, 5 pm HKT - April 26, 1 am HKT

New narrative trailer for 'Resident Evil Village'
A fourth trailer for the upcoming Resident Evil Village game was revealed which features the tall vampire Lady Dimitrescu, along with returning protagonist Ethan Winters.
The new narrative trailer also reveals more about the titular village, Mother Miranda, Umbrella Corporation's involvement, Ethan's confrontation with Chris Redfield, and much more. Check it out below.
Resident Evil Mercenaries return
Resident Evil Mercenaries, the popular time trial mode that’s been around since Resident Evil 3, makes a returns in Resident Evil Village.
The mode was last seen in Resident Evil 6, and the idea is to let players compete in high-score challenges by racking up kills and collecting time extension bonuses. It will include new features like power upgrades and weapon shops between rounds.
Trailer for 'Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness' on Netflix
Capcom also premiered a new character trailer for Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, a new animated series coming to Netflix. Infinite Darkness reunites Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield as they fend off a zombie outbreak at the White House.
The series takes place two years after the events of Resident Evil 4, when Leon was sent by President Graham to save his daughter, Ashley. Leon is invited to the White House to investigate who may have gotten their hands on presidential files, when the lights suddenly go out and a horde of zombies appear. While doing an investigation of her own, Claire visits the White House, where the two discover that there may be a link between their two mysteries.
Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness releases worldwide in July 2021, only on Netflix.
Resident Evil Dead by Daylight collaboration announced
The Resident Evil Chapter is coming soon to Dead by Daylight. Behaviour Interactive will reveal the Resident Evil chapter on May 25 during DBD’s 5th-anniversary stream. The collaboration chapter will be released in June 2021.
