‘Are You Sure?!’ featuring BTS' Jimin and Jungkook is a friendship show that brings delight
BTS ARMY surely misses the Bangtan boys. While majority of the members are busy fulfilling their mandatory military duties, fans have been rewatching the group’s past self-produced travel and variety shows like Run BTS, Bon Voyage, Summer Package, and In the SOOP. For many of us, watching the boys chill and relax during their "workation" trips and seeing them have fun when they play games lift our moods and even heal us in some way. There’s just something about watching BTS that does that kind of magic.
Fans went into a frenzy a few months ago when spoilers of Jimin and Jungkook documenting their travels leaked on social media. Even without a final show title at the time, the two went on with their plan to go on trips before they enlisted in the military in 2023. In July this year, Disney+ officially announced the new offering titled Are You Sure?!.
In the first episode of the series, Jungkook is seen promoting his single Seven in New York on the Good Morning America show. While it turns out to be quite a hassle for him due to the sudden rains, he manages to give a great performance.
He also goes a road trip with Jimin. Some parts of the show reminded us of their Bon Voyage and In The Soop days. While driving, Jungkook and Jimin reflect on how they want to go on a trip and share their plans on their respective solo projects. In true JiKook fashion, the two entertain us with their cute banters as they jam out to Seven, among other things that show their side as fun-loving friends.
The two have late lunch, do a bit of grocery shopping, and hop on a kayak before the sun sets. I won’t spoil much, but let’s just say that something entertaining happens when one of them tries to ride their boat. This particular scene made me want to go on a nature trip as soon as possible.
Although only Jimin and Jungkook are on this show (at least in the first two episodes), the entire thing is BTS-coded. They can’t help but plan on going fishing when they thought of their eldest member Jin. They also mention Suga and V out of nowhere during a dinner outside their camper van. Jungkook takes the lead in marinating and grilling the steak while Jimin is in charge of the ramyeon.
The following day, the two push through with trekking even though they're not feeling so well. After all, they don't always get a chance to do this without a bunch of people following them everywhere they go.
They later enjoy a yacht party, where they simply chill, feast on food, take a nap, go on dance challenges, and, of course, tease each other. They pass by a nearby Walmart where they buy ingredients and snacks before settling in a luxurious cottage. Jungkook then puts on an imaginary chef's hat and takes charge in preparing carbonara for dinner.
Looking well-rested, the two wake up a bit later than usual the next day. They decide to go to Walmart once more to buy sponge for the dishes, but they end up buying more food and meet an ARMY with a BTS-themed tattoo. How cool is that? Jungkook also drives a Harley with Jimin. That's when they come up with the realization that Harley riders spread their legs not to look cool, but mainly because it's hot.
The second episode ends with Jimin and Jungkook dining in a quaint restaurant. The highlight for me is Jungkook’s curiosity towards another customer’s food. He will forever be the golden maknae!
Right after watching the first two episodes, I streamed Jungkook’s Golden album and Jimin’s Muse album. The fact that Jimin squeezed in this duo trip while working on his solo album in secret just made me appreciate him more.
Jimin and Jungkook have three major stops on the show: summer in New York, fall in Jeju Island, and winter in Sapporo. Only two entries have been released so far, but it already looks like this friendship show has so much fun yet heartwarming moments in store for its viewers. It's also interesting that they show not only the good, but also the unavoidable downsides of traveling.
The preview for the third episode is out—and Jimin and Jungkook will be reunited with fellow maknae line member V. With these three together, we can expect some genuine interaction and chaos in between.
Are You Sure?! featuring Jimin and Jungkook is streaming on Disney+. New episodes will be uploaded every Thursday.
