Marvel to open mini studio for future animated projects
There’s no doubt that there is a lot of hype and expectations for Marvel’s upcoming new series, What If…?, and in less than a month, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first ever animated series will be dropping.
However, this is just the beginning for it seems like Marvel Studios has more animation projects up its sleeves.
Marvel Studios’ executive VP of Film Production and one of the key figures behind MCU along with Kevin Feige, Victoria Alonso, recently revealed that they are planning to open a smaller studio that will focus on their future animation projects.
Alonso is also notable for being the executive producer for WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier which earned the studio 28 Emmy nations. With What If…? just around the corner, it seems like the woman behind numerous Marvel film titles like Iron Man and the first Avengers film, Alonso seems to have her eyes set on new projects.
“We’re going to have our animation branch and mini studio, and there will be more to come from that as well,” Alonso shared with Variety in an interview during the NALIP Media Summit.
“We’re super excited about animation, which is my first love,” she adds.
Given the finale for the first season of Loki, What If…? seems to be tied to the MCU. The expansion of the multiverse is definitely on its way with Dr. Strange’s much-awaited sequel film, Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Thanks to the streaming industry’s steady growth, it opened chances for Marvel Studios to further expand its universe and storytelling, creating more opportunities for fans to know more characters and about the Marvel universe.
“When the chance of being a part of this streaming world came about, we were beyond excited because all of a sudden we could actually give the fans far more than 1/4 of a page or three cool moves,” Alonso explains.
What If…? isn’t the only upcoming series slated to be released this year. Hawkeye’s solo series is also on its way, along with a new teen superhero with Ms. Marvel.
As for new animation projects, these are yet to be announced but one thing is for sure, fans can expect them in the future.
