'Lutang' moment
The running joke began in 2017 during the noontime program's Tawag ng Tanghalan portion. Social media users tagged her in their memes and skits about her viral remark during the holiday season.
In one segment, Anne, with her co-host and "sisteret" Vice Ganda, interviewed a male OFW hoping to spend Christmas with his family.
The Unkabogable star used birthdays as an example as they talked about special occasions that OFWs wouldn't want to miss with their loved ones. “Alam mo, bukod sa hirap ng trabaho sa ibang bansa, ang pinakamahirap na hinaharap ng mga Pilipino doon ay yung pagka-miss nila sa pamilya nila sa Pilipinas. ‘Yung homesick, 'di ba?” Vice said.
"Lalo na during Christmas, family celebrations na you're meant to be together," Anne replied.
Vice then continued with "Birthday mo," which Anne misunderstood. "Birthday ko?" she asked.
Anne burst out laughing after realizing she didn't get it.
"Sa palagay mo, bakit mamimiss ng OFW yung birthday mo?" Vice asked.
"Sa ating mga OFWs pasensya na po kung hindi kayo makauwi 'pag birthday ni Anne," she joked, drawing laughs from the audience.
Since then, users have been making jokes and skits about Anne's viral moment like one TikTok video from the user (@kevinhufana) who can be seen tearing up during a meal and then acting excited and joyful. “POV: Yung OFW ka tapos nalaman mong makakauwi ka sa Pinas sa birthday ni Anne Curtis,” the video's text read.
Anne retweeted it on X and said, "HAHAHA OMG TO! LUH," expressing her amusement over the video, which has garnered over 9 million views and 1 million hearts as of writing.
Anne also quoted a social media user on X in another post who noted the dates they needed to remember.
"All set for 2024 onwards. Mga bagay na hindi dapat mawala sa inyong calendar," they tweeted, enumerating the holidays, special events, and the actress' birth date.
The Kapamilya star wrote another post expressing her love for the new memes about her hilarious moment. "Hahaha! Mga playtime!! But I love it! Love you all!"
