Second season of Dutch TV reality show filmed in Palawan
The second season of a popular Dutch reality show is now up—and it is filmed in the beautiful islands of Palawan, Philippines.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) took pride in the islands’ recent feat, “Palawan is becoming more known and popular in The Netherlands and Belgium as it is again the coveted backdrop for the ongoing second season of Million Dollar Island, an enthralling survival series shown on Dutch television,” they wrote in the release.
Million Dollar Island—which was also filmed on the same island during their first season—is a Dutch survival TV series that challenges the 50 Dutch and 50 Belgian participants’ wits and abilities. They must survive the series of challenges on the island for 60 days. The winner will take home one million euros (over P55 million).
"The second season of Million Dollar Island manifests the captivating beauty and allure of Palawan not just to the Dutch and Belgians who experience it firsthand through the series, but also to viewers across Europe,” Philippine Ambassador to The Netherlands J. Eduardo Malaya said.
Aside from the said reality show, Palawan was previously featured in hit movies like Bourne Legacy, Crazy Rich Asians, and Expedition Robinson—a Swedish reality game show.
With its beautiful sceneries, beaches, and the kindness of its people, Palawan is famous for tourists from The Netherlands. According to DFA, it garnered a total of 41,313 visits in 2019 prior to the pandemic, with 30% of it are repeat visitors.
Million Dollar Island’s second season is currently running and is being aired on Netherlands’ SBS6 channel every Sunday. Interested audiences may also stream the series on Prime Video.
